(B) It is a fact that there is no legislation

The Gover

in Hong Kong as to the hours of child labour,

recently reported that he was appointing a Committee to

consider the feasibility of legislation on the subject.

(In case 6 of Commander Haslewood's "evidence of child

slavery" the children referred to were with their own

parents and the suggestion that the adoption of children

leads to their being overworked is not therefore support-

ed by this case on the contrary)

(C) The Governor states that the Committee

of the Po Leung Kuk (vide under A) are active along the lines of preventing "mui tsai" being sold into prostitu-

tion.

The "evidence" quoted by Lieutenant Commender daslewood is sufficiently dealt with in the Governor's Confidential despatch of 10th March. As regards the

"facts" the following notes may be made.

(1) True: but see the full statement under A above. (2) The children normally work about the house as

maidservants.

(3) True: but this has nothing necessarily to do

with mui tsai vide B above.

(4) This was not the only report made by the

Governor.
